The Committee

Pinewood Family Group is a registered charity, it is set up for the benefit of the local community in providing Early Years Education.

Pinewood Family Group Pre-school is *reliant on the commitment and goodwill of volunteers* to manage the activities of the charity. The majority of members are parents and families who use the services of Pre-school but we are also open to carer’s and other family members who can join to be committee members.

To reflect changes in the membership as families move through the Pre-school, an Annual General Meeting is held each September every year, where by trustees are appointed although you can be elected on to the committee at any time.

What is the role of the committee?

Whilst the Pre-school work with the children and run the group on a day to day basis, the overall responsibility of the group is in the hands of the committee. Everything from finance, fundraising, administration, recruitment, school trips, policies and procedures, parties and everything in between are all the roles of the committee. Without a committee the pre-school is unable to operate.

We are also responsible for raising money for much needed equipment for the children through fund raising events such as the Christmas Fayre, Christmas Party, Easter Fayre and Sponsored events and Graduation Party.

Are there specific positions in the committee?

There are three officer roles;

  • Chairperson
  • Secretary, and
  • Treasurer.
These roles have specific duties and must be filled.  A minimum of five members must be elected for the committee and Preschool to operate.  Other members become ‘general members’ and your role in the committee has a more flexible input but equally of essential importance.

What skills are needed?

A wide variety of skills are needed to fulfil the various tasks that a committee undertakes.  We appreciate all skills and backgrounds that various people are able to bring.  Therefore instead of focusing on particular skills we say that the most valuable thing you can give is your time.  Our committee meets approximately once a month and a meeting generally lasts 2 to 3 hours.  In addition we also need your time along the way to help with fundraising, administration tasks such as typing or photocopying or even help with craft activities such as cutting out.

We really need reliable people that can make a valuable contribution to their child’s pre-school.

How do I join?

If you have liked what you have read so far and you feel that you are able to dedicate your time to your Pre-school, speak to the Manager to introduce you to a committee member or email us here

What else do I need to know?

Due to the committee having an active role around children it is a requirement for us to register every member with OFSTED and subsequently they will need to complete an enhanced DBS (Data and Barring Service) and suitability check.  As we deal with confidential information you are also expected to complete a confidentiality agreement.
